Find the arithmetic mean between the following pairs of numbers:

1. $\sqrt{2}$ and $3\sqrt{2}$
2. $\frac{1}{3}$ and $\frac{1}{5}$
3. $a+b$ and $a-b$

Key Concept: Arithmetic Mean

The arithmetic mean $A$ between two numbers $a$ and $b$ is the number that, when placed between them, forms an arithmetic sequence $a,A,b$.

For $a,A,b$ to be arithmetic, the common difference must be constant: $A-a=b-A⟹2A=a+b⟹A=\frac{a+b}{2}$

Part (i): Arithmetic mean between $\sqrt{2}$ and $3\sqrt{2}$

$A=\frac{\sqrt{2}+3\sqrt{2}}{2}=\frac{4\sqrt{2}}{2}=2\sqrt{2}$
